Throw Pillows

As Christmas gifts this year, I made some easy throw pillows. I had an alterior motive, as I was trying to develop a pattern for throw pillows for Tootie's bed. It ended up being even simpler than I thought!
I cut:
9 - 3.5"x3.5" squares
2 - 3.5"x9" strips
2 - 3.5"x15" strips.
Pieced it all together, then pinned it right sides together to the uncut fabric for the backing. I cut out the square for the back, using the front as my guide. I then sewed around the edges, leaving enough room to stuff the pillow in. Turned it right side out, stuffed the pillow in and stitched up the hole.

Rainbow Cake

My KRAFT magazine arrived in the mail this week with this cake on the cover. I was immediately begged to make this by minis and Papashunga alike. It was my pleasure to oblige.

Ribbon Blankies

I first made one of these blankies for my son just weeks after he was born. Now, at almost three, he still cuddles with it nightly and loves the ribbons to death. Literally. It will soon be time for a ribbon transplant on his original blankie. Many friends admired the blankie and soon, I was making blankies galore for friends, family and friends of friends. I now make six or eight at a time to have some on hand, as they are simple to create and they make excellent baby gifts.
These are so easy:
cut 2 squares of desired size of flannels
cut 4 x 4"strips of four different complementary ribbons (16 total)
*I try to use ribbons of varying textures as well.

Pin wrong sides together, then secure four ribbons in between the two layers. To do this, fold the ribbons in half and slide the loop inside so that the end protrudes slightly from the edge. Sew around the edge, with a 1/2" seam allowance, leaving a section several inches wide, open. Trim Corners. Turn blankie right-side out through the hole. Press. Top stitch around the edge, using a slightly smaller seam allowance. This top stitching seals up the hole, and also ensures that all the ribbons are now double-stitched for your baby's safety.

Christmas Tree Ornament Idea:

Tie colourful ribbons onto some old keys. Super cool idea, courtesy of the Original Mamashunga!
